We’ve introduced a new camp cabin to our suite of roofed accommodations, and it’s named after an important figure in Ontario Parks’ history.
Here is the story of the new Trapp Cabin at Neys Provincial Park.
Why is it called the “Trapp Cabin”?
The cabin is named after Linda Trapp, a long-term Ontario Parks’ staffer and former Superintendent of Neys Provincial Park.
Linda began her career working as a Gate Attendant at nearby Rainbow Falls Provincial Park’s Rossport Campground in the summer of 1976. She later held positions as Cook Assistant, Manual Worker and Maintenance Foreperson at Rainbow Falls before making the move to Neys.
In early 1985, Linda started as the Neys’ Maintenance Foreperson progressing to Assistant Superintendent within two years. By 2003, Linda became the Park Superintendent for Ontario Parks’ Nipigon/Terrace Bay node, overseeing a network of 27 parks including Neys and Rainbow Falls.
Recently retired at the end of 2016 with 40 years of service, the cabin is named in Linda’s honour, ensuring that Linda’s spirit lives on forever at Neys!
A cabin on the beach
This renovated cabin was miraculously repurposed from a former water pump house to become the first roofed accommodation available at Neys. It’s located in the Area 2 Campground, at land’s edge of the park’s 2 km sand beach along the shore of Lake Superior.
This rustic one-room cabin has a wooden interior, sleeps four and features Ontario Parks’ first Murphy bed (a bed that folds up into a wall storage unit when not in use) with a luxurious memory foam double mattress. It also includes a double pull-out couch, table and chairs, ceiling fan, fridge and electric heater.
You’ll find an ample number of cupboards to store your clothes, camping supplies and toys for the night. Water taps are located right across the road and the comfort station is just a short walk away. On-site parking is provided.
Cook with ease with the pots, pans, dishes, silverware, cups, mugs, knife block, hot plate, coffee maker and kettle provided for your convenience.
Outside, you can relax on the large wooden porch, complete with comfortable outdoor patio furniture and spectacular views of the lake. You’ll enjoy cooking over the barbeque with side burner, and roasting marshmallows at the park’s only beachfront campfire pit while enjoying beautiful sunsets, lapping waves and twinkling stars.
And yes, rest assured that the cabin has passed its inaugural test stay by none other than Linda herself!

What to bring
Visitors should bring their own personal bedding (sheets, blankets and pillows), personal items including towels and food.
Restrictions
Please note that domestic animals (pets) are not permitted in the cabin or on site and smoking is prohibited. There is a 2-night booking minimum, with 3-night booking minimum on long weekends.
How to Reserve
Reservations can be made online or through our call centre by phoning 1-888-ONT-PARK. When reserving online, select “Roofed Accommodation” as your reservation type.
Cabin rentals can be made five months in advance of your arrival date.

Hot Tip! Neys’ Trapp cabin has been open since the summer of 2017 and has quickly become very popular. Be sure to book your stay as soon as possible to avoid disappointment!
