Near North
Driftwood Provincial Park
The cool, clear waters of the Ottawa River are calling you. A sandy beach that stretches the entire length of the campground is just a short jaunt from this site, which is also very close to the park’s hiking trails.
From Driftwood, you can day-trip to Algonquin with your camping permit, which gives you free access to any provincial park. The Brent Access Point is only an hour away, and Achray Access Point is just over two hours away.
Driftwood is 2.5 hours north of Ottawa, and 1.5 hours east of North Bay.
Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park
Samuel de Champlain is located on historic Mattawa River fur trade route in the Mattawa Valley. Natural heritage education staff at the park provide interactive programming suitable for all ages. Relaxing beside the refreshing, clear waters of Moore Lake is a fantastic way to spend a warm day.
Samuel de Champlain is 40 minutes east of North Bay, and approximately 3.5 hours from Ottawa.
Northwestern Ontario
Rainbow Falls Provincial Park – Whitesand
You’ll want to stay all week when you catch a glimpse of the striking Lake Superior shoreline!
Shake out the cobwebs with a hike along the Casque Isle Trail, or view the cascading waters as they plunge over the rock ledges of Rainbow Falls on their way to Lake Superior.
Rainbow Falls is 2.5 hours from Thunder Bay, and 5 hours from Sault Ste Marie (just follow the Lake Superior shoreline!).
Sandbar Lake Provincial Park
The sandy beach’s gently sloping swimming area is great for kids. Paddle through some of the finest fishing lakes in Northern Ontario (canoe rentals available). A fish-cleaning station, with lights, running water and cutting tables is located by the boat launch.
Sandbar Lake is 3 hours from Thunder Bay or 1.5 hours from Dryden.
Northeastern Ontario
Kettle Lakes Provincial Park
Kettle Lakes is part of the great expanse of boreal forest that covers northern Ontario, and offers great hiking, birding and fishing opportunities.
The park has 14 km of bike trails that wind through the forest and lead you to Slab Lake where you can have a swim before continuing your journey.
Kettle Lakes is 4 hours north of Sudbury.
Pancake Bay Provincial Park
Pancake Bay boasts more than 3 km of beautiful sand beach and caribbean blue waters. Enjoy a panoramic view of Lake Superior from the Edmund Fitzgerald Lookout hiking trail. The park is located along the historic paddling route of the voyageurs, and is only a short drive from many regional attractions.
Pancake Bay is 1 hour from Sault Ste Marie.
