Bon Echo's Hardwood Hill open for autumn

Keen for some fall camping? In today’s post, Lauren Jackson, a Natural Heritage Education team member, announces the extension of Hardwood Hill Campground’s season.

Due to the high demand for more fall campsites and the interest in fall colours, we are thrilled to announce that Bon Echo Provincial Park‘s Hardwood Hill Campground will now be open until October 8, 2018.

Hardwood Hill Campground

Hardwood Hill provides a semi-wilderness experience for our eager campers who enjoy the peace and quiet of a radio-free zone.

Hardwood Hill campsite

This campground consists of 100 private campsites (sites 401-500). Nine of these campsites (414-422) are walk-in only. These large, clean sites can accommodate either tents or tent-trailers. It is important to note that there are no electrical hook-ups in this campground.

A small comfort station with showers, flush toilets, and a washer and dryer are located near the campground entrance, and vault and flush toilets are found throughout the campground. There are also recycling and garbage containers at your disposal within the campground.

Hardwood Hill is situated in a lovely maple-beech forest which means the fall colours can be quite spectacular with reds, oranges, and yellows.

How pretty will this campsite be when the leaves start to turn?

You may also see a large variety of species including salamanders, turtles, chipmunks, and White-tailed Deer, along with various mosses and ferns. By extending Hardwood Hills’ camping season, campers can now enjoy the lovely and colourful canvas of leaves upon the forest floor.

Couple Canoeing,

If you feel like a relaxing ride in a canoe or would like to go fishing, head to Joeperry Lake to enjoy the scenery and colours. Joeperry Lake is only a short distance from Hardwood Hill Campground. After parking your vehicle, a short 500 m walk / portage will take you to this picturesque lake.

We encourage you to get out this fall and explore this wonderful part of Bon Echo!
