For more than 50 years, we’ve called the wolves every Thursday in August.
Since the Algonquin Provincial Park Wolf Howls started in 1963, more than 150,000 visitors have spent summer evenings listening to the wolves’ haunting harmonies.
What happens at a Wolf Howl?
The evening begins at the Outdoor Theatre with a talk on wolf ecology, delivered by one of our park naturalists. Howl attendees receive instructions on event protocol, then all participants drive (or, occasionally, walk) to a Howl site along Highway 60. The naturalist team gives imitation howls to encourage a nearby pack to respond.
How do I sign up for a Howl?
No registration necessary, but Howls depend on good weather and an accessible wolf pack. Each Howl is confirmed on the morning of the event.
Be sure to confirm the Howl is happening before you hit the road.

Planning to attend a wolf howl? Here are a few tips:
- arrive early — this event is very popular
- dress warmly
- make sure your car is full of gas
- leave your pets at home (no dogs allowed at the theatre or the howl site)
