Northeastern Ontario
Kettle Lakes Provincial Park
Kettle Lakes is part of the great expanse of boreal forest that covers northern Ontario, and offers great hiking, birding, and fishing opportunities.
The park has 14 km of bike trails that wind through the forest and lead you to Slab Lake. Stop for a refreshing swim before continuing your journey!
Kettle Lakes is 4 hours north of Sudbury.
Pancake Bay Provincial Park
Pancake Bay boasts more than 3 km of beautiful sand beach and Caribbean blue waters.
Enjoy a panoramic view of Lake Superior from the Edmund Fitzgerald Lookout hiking trail. The park is located along the historic paddling route of the voyageurs, and is only a short drive from many regional attractions.
Pancake Bay is 1 hour from Sault Ste Marie.
Northwestern Ontario
Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park
Kakabeka Falls is the second highest waterfall in Ontario with year-round access for viewing. Enjoy excellent views of the falls and gorge from the boardwalk that wraps around the top.
Book a campsite and use it as a basecamp for exploring the area!
Kakabeka Falls is 30 minutes from Thunder Bay.
Rushing River Provincial Park
Rushing River is a favourite family camping destination with beaches, playgrounds, hiking, and endless opportunities for exploring.
Stop by the park’s museum and check out their many interpretive displays.
Rushing River is 2.5 hours from Winnipeg.
Near North
Restoule Provincial Park
Restoule is a fall colours paradise!
Paddle along the base of the Stormy Lake Bluffs, or hike to the top for a view of the local landscape.
More than 90 species of birds frequent the waters and forests of Restoule, including Peregrine Falcons, Bald Eagles, and Osprey.
Restoule is 1 hour south of North Bay, and 2 hours north of Orillia.
Sturgeon Bay Provincial Park
Anglers will love Shawanaga Bay, a huge inlet reaching inland from Georgian Bay with hundreds of islands and lots of underwater structures that fish like to hang around.
Rent a nearby motor boat and explore the bay!
Sturgeon Bay is 3 hours from Toronto, and 1.5 hours from Sudbury.
Southeastern Ontario
Charleston Lake Provincial Park
Charleston Lake is a favourite family camping destination offering excellent boating, fishing, and wildlife viewing.
It also offers some of best summer stargazing in southeastern Ontario.
Charleston Lake is under 1 hour from Kingston and under 2 hours from Ottawa.
Ferris Provincial Park
At Ferris, you’ll find over 10 km of trails that take you through forest and riverside settings. The Ranney Falls Trail follows the original roadway to the park before looping back along the river.
The suspension bridge offers a panoramic view of the Trent River Gorge and — of course — the trail’s namesake Ranney Falls.

Ferris is 1.5 hours from Kingston and just over 2 hours from Toronto.
Southwestern Ontario
Earl Rowe Provincial Park
Watch spawning salmon at the fish ladder (a space for fish to leap over obstacles) or explore one of the many trails in the park.
Grab your bike and discover the park on two wheels! The 11 km Rainbow Run Trail loops around wetlands, campgrounds, lakes, forest, and open-field ecosystems.
Earl Rowe is only 1.5 hours from Toronto or 45 minutes from Barrie.
Rondeau Provincial Park
Eleven beach accesses lead to 11 km of beautiful sandy beaches along the Lake Erie side of the Rondeau peninsula. The park also offers six hiking trails to explore this world-renowned birding destination.
Birders can catch a glimpse of songbirds and warblers as they stop off at the park before migrating south to their overwintering grounds.
Rondeau is 3 hours from Toronto and 1.5 hours from London.
